What's mainstream anymore?
Like so many others, I have been struggling to find sources of reliable and balanced news. No one can deny that in this era of hyper-partisan media, and the continuing erosion of trust in the media overall, knowing who and what to believe has become a real struggle.
Frankly, as someone who has been reading The New York Times regularly for decades, I am increasingly disenchanted with the choices it has been making in recent years. I still use it for breadth of coverage and an initial take on things, but I do so with a more skeptical eye than ever.
I find there are many voices here on Substack that present deep and insightful perspective on the news. Not necessarily impartial but having a POV and being able to speak truth are key to journalistic integrity and excellence. I anticipate ramping up my time with Substack content even more in the months ahead.
Another recent find for me was Ground News, which provides a read on how left, center, and right outlets are covering stories in the news. In my quest to try and consume perspective that might disagree with my own, this is a good starting place.
I recently re-subscribed to The New Yorker magazine because they (along with The Atlantic) are still doing long-form journalism that matters to me. Having the ability to go deep, and still form my own opinions, is critical to me.
What are your go-to sources? What is the new mainstream?
