Lying is easy
I lie a lot. Probably daily.
I suspect you do too.
A lot.
Frankly, I think we all lie a whole lot more than we want to admit. Which is another lie.
And those lies, on repeat, can shape who we are and how we interact with the world.
Of course, I am referring to the lies we tell ourselves. Nothing is easier, in some ways, then telling ourselves something we want to hear, something that comforts us, something that absolves us of feelings we don’t want or like. And since we know that we would never lie to ourselves, we end up believing the lies. Because we are not a liar, right?
Dying is easy, young man. Living is harder. — Lin-Manuel Miranda, “Right Hand Man”
Lying is easy.
Living is harder.
My Favorite Lie
This is the lie I tell myself most often, have for the whole of my life. And this is the lie that undermines my ability to enjoy the things that matter to me most.
